On Sunday, December 29, 2024, the Jubilee Year 2025 was opened in the Diocese of Madison by the Most Reverend Donald J. Hying. Bishop Hying celebrated a Mass and the Rite of the Opening of the Jubilee which included: a gathering of the people in a place apart from the church for an opening prayer, the proclamation of a Gospel reading from John 14, the reading of the Papal Bull of Indiction of the 2025 Jubilee, and the Procession to the doors of the church with the singing of the Jubilee Hymn. At the doors of the church, Bishop Hying took the Jubilee Cross, which for the Diocese of Madison is the new processional cross for St. Bernard Cathedral, and held it before the assembled faithful as all sang the acclamation Crucem tuam. After the acclamation, the Bishop and the faithful entered the church for the Renewal of Baptismal Promises, the Sprinkling Rite, and celebration of Holy Mass.
