You write: 'To pray is to talk with God. But about what?' About what? About Him, about yourself: joys, sorrows, successes and failures, noble ambitions, daily worries, weaknesses! And acts of thanksgiving and petitions: and Love and reparation.
In a word: to get to know him and to get to know yourself: 'to get acquainted!'
- The Way, 91
Looking ahead to the coming years of the Go Make Disciples initiative, we wanted to help those searching for high quality, engaging resources to help form teens in the way of discipleship. To begin meeting this need, we have invested in the creation of a resource for parishes to use in teaching teens (especially 6th - 9th graders) how to pray.
Heart to Heart is a 93 page guide, which includes teaching on the following six topics:
Heart to Heart is produced as a spiral bound book - perfect for use in a classroom, a Church, and the home. Heart to Heart is meant to be supplementary to other catechetical materials, yet the content is the most essential to communicated to young Catholics. The content is ideally taught over the course of 6 weeks or sessions for at least half an hour at a time. The prayer/journal pages are intended to be used much more frequently, in the course of catechetical instruction or formation with MS and HS teens.
Heart to Heart includes short biographies of 18 blesseds and saints, exploring how their lives were transformed by giving their hearts to God in prayer. Each copy also includes a sticker sheet to help teens track their progress in learning about the life of prayer.
Copies of Heart To Heart are $8 when purchased by parishes in the Diocese of Madison. If you are enthusiastic about using Heart To Heart but finances in your parish or school make it difficult, e-mail Emily!
