Announcing the Winner of the Catholic Cemeteries Week Logo Contest
And the winner of the Catholic Cemeteries Week Logo Contest is…
Isabelle Dieter, 8th grader from Holy Ghost-Immaculate Conception School in Kieler!
In preparation for Catholic Cemeteries Week (May 28-June 3), the diocesan Department of Cemeteries conducted a logo contest open to grades 6 – 12. Two dozen entries were received before the February 28 deadline.
Dieter’s design features a traditional depiction of the Lamb of God holding a military banner, a symbol of Christ’s victory over death, in front of a cross, surrounded by a rosary. Dieter explained that “The rosary is the most significant aspect because it symbolizes our prayers for the deceased.”
The Cemetery Advisory Board served as judges for the contest, and enjoyed reviewing the entries. Five finalists were selected. Katie Schroedl, a 10th grader from St. Jerome Parish in Columbus was the runner-up. Honorable mentions went to Holy Ghost-Immaculate Conception School students Evelyn Berning (7th grade), Samantha Dieter (6th grade), and Ella Roepsch (6th grade). Choosing a winner was challenging given the high caliber of submissions, but Isabelle Dieter’s design stood out for its balance of simplicity and detail.
The logo contest winner was announced on March 23 at Immaculate Conception Parish in Kieler after the school Mass. HGIC School’s 8th grade teacher, Angela Jones, integrated the contest into her religion curriculum, offering a chance to discuss death and the afterlife.
The Department of Cemeteries and the Cemetery Advisory Board thank all students who participated, and are especially grateful to the teachers and parents who supported the contest.
As the winner, Dieter received $500 for use toward Catholic education. All Catholic Cemeteries Week materials will feature the new logo.
