Heavenly Father, your servant John Paul II reminded us that "the destiny of humanity passes through the family," which casts a tremendous light on the magnitude of family ministry as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Christ came to us through a family, we each emerged into life through a family, and society will pass the way of the family.

Lord, please help us to love our neighbor as ourselves, beginning in the heart of our very own families. Help us to live joyfully and courageously, embracing your design for love and life, and reject the false promises of the world. We ask you to please bless our diocesan celebrations during the 40^th anniversary of Humanae Vitae. May many hear this message and begin again on their journey.

Our desert time is over, and love’s oasis is on the horizon. Help us to drink deeply from the waters of everlasting life that flow for us from the altar at the Most High, entrusting our dreams and hopes to the Lord Jesus through the hands of His Blessed Mother, Mary. Amen.

The Diocese of Madison is offering a Parish event package to all interested parishes free of charge. Allow your parishioners to hear first hand Dr. Bradford Wilcox, award-winning sociologist of the family from the University of Virginia, or Vicki Thorn, a internationally-known speaker on post abortion healing and human bonding. Wilcox visited the diocese in October to discuss the latest research on marriage and family, and Thorn was with us in February. We have recorded their talks and offer them to you and your parishes.

July 25 marked the 40^th anniversary of the release of Humanae Vitae. This coming year presents an outstanding opportunity to remember Humanae Vitae as a living love letter summoning society to a vision of love that demands much, but offers eternal joy. Though the encyclical itself is about the vocation of marriage, the themes of Humanae Vitae apply to all—those of love, life, chastity, vocation and self-gift. This is a message for everyone.

How can we bring the Gospel of Life to our families? Answering this question is the goal of a series of celebrations the Diocese of Madison is putting together for the 40^th Anniversary of Humanae Vitae year. These range from a lecture series to diocesan wide mailings, parish missions, increased media presence and informational packets for clergy and parishes.
