Spiritual Retreat - February 12, 2008
This day provides participants an opportunity to reflect on ways to be be awakened to the mystery of God calling us into communion with Him. Prayer, spiritual reading, reconciliation and celebration will be the basis upon which we move through the day. This day is led by Sr. Marcia Vinje and the staff of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis.
For "make up," students who were unable to attend this session are asked to attend some other retreat of their choosing during this Lenten season.
Preparatory Homework
Prepare the Personal Examination of Conscience from last month to use during adoration/confession; bring materials of spiritual reading for Lent.
Practicum in Spiritual Formation
This time was simply used as a part of the retreat this month. Morning prayer followed this order.
Class Notes
Fr. William Vernon of Cambridge spoke about the sacrament of Confession and personal holiness in the morning before Exposing the Blessed Sacrament for us.
Sister Marcia Vinje spoke during the afternoon session on developing a "personal ideal." While we all share in a universal call to holiness, each of us is called by God to a unique path in life. Discerning that path is part of the adventure of life. Sr. Marcia distributed and discussed the following materials:
* The Personal Ideal
* A Personal Mission
* A sample personalized examination of conscience

Spiritual Formation Homework
Complete a personal ideal. Spend at least 15 minutes in prayer every day during Lent.
Follow-up to Today's Class
Write a one-page essay describing some of the personal insights which God reveals to you as you reflect upon your personal ideal. What did you discover about yourself? How will you grow from this effort?
In Preparation for Next Month's Class
To prepare for next month's class on the Magisterium,read paragraphs 748-975 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. (This is the section titled "I Believe in the Holy Catholic Church." This could make good material for your daily Lenten spiritual reading.
If you want to go even further (but this portion is not required), read two of the documents from Vatican Council II: Lumen Gentium (Light to the Nations) and Christus Dominus (Christ the Lord).
