Sitting Atop a Hill in West Madison — The Bishop O'Connor Catholic Pastoral Center
Situated on a hilltop in the midst of Madison's west side, the Bishop O'Connor Catholic Pastoral Center stands as a visible sign of the church in southwest Wisconsin. From the cross perched high atop its steeple, to the image of the Risen Christ — arms outstretched and welcoming — the Center is a symbol to all of the church's mission of welcome and hospitality.
The O'Connor Center provides a place for people to gather for education, recreation, and spiritual growth. Home to diocesan administrative offices and over a dozen full-time residents, the Center also offers a wide variety of services to meet the needs of the local church and the surrounding community.
Its meeting rooms provide expanded religious education opportunities for all ages and a place for retreats, meetings, and conferences for people from throughout the 11 counties of the diocese.
There are eight meeting rooms of various sizes, a 350-seat auditorium, and a dining room, which seats 200. Diocesan archives provide material for researchers, and a reading room is a quiet haven for study. A gymnasium, Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a baseball diamond are available to groups as well.
